The Firefly LED lamp is an reinterpretation of the old whale oil street lamps in Copenhagen, which the daily watchmen, in Danish ‘vægtere’, had the responsibility to lid. Every night at dusk they went from lamp to lamp to lid them and they walked through the streets all night long.
The phenomenon of watchmen lighting and caring for the street lamps existed in Copenhagen from around the 14th century until 1863.
